The Flyers in Water...
Michael Phelps, the record breaker from USA, once again did proud to their country. With the support from their president Mr Geoge Bush, physically present there to give them his support, their boys really had an outstanding performance for the event of 400m IM. Phelps completed the 400m IM with a new WR of 4:03.84. Ryan Lochte, also from USA, came in 3rd in the same event.
In the Men's 400m Freestyle event, we have Larsen Jensen (USA) in lane 4, Zhang Lin (China) in lane 5 and Park Taehwan (South Korea) in lane 3. The norm for a swimming event is the fastest swimmer will usually be in lane 4. Without much knowledge about the swimmers, much attention was put on Jensen. Unexpectedly, after the start, Park outbeat all the swimmers, going steadily at his own speed in the 1st position. His persistance and stamina pulled him through. For the 1st time in South Korea's history, their boy brought back a Gold Medal in a swimming event. Wow...
Catching up with the constant improvement made by competitors from other countries, our Singapore girls did much proud too. Last evening, Tao Li brought us 1st hand good news, breaking her own record set at Asian Games records (58.96sec) for 100m Women's Butterfly by 57.77sec, making her way as the 1st Asian into semi-finals.
This morning, in semi-finals, with live broadcast on CH5, the race really made all Singaporean held on to their breadth the moment the starting horn sounded. Looking across the line, our girl's built is outstandingly petite. However, never estimate her ability by her looks. At the start, Tao was lagging far back as compared to the other swimmers, but after the turn, she sprinted up and overtook many others. In the end, she came in 3rd with a new record of 57.54sec.
Well done, girl!
